Event tackles horse crime threat

Crime prevention advice is being offered by police for horse owners in Gloucestershire.

Last year in the county, some £91,000 worth of equipment and horses were stolen.

Owners are being offered the chance to have their animals and equipment microchipped at an event at Lakers School in Coleford on Monday.

Pc Darren Peters said: "There is a lucrative market out there for people who steal horses and their tack."

He added: "Micro-chipping horses and marking tack items makes it increasingly difficult for the criminal fraternity to sell these items on and we would advise all horse owners to take advantage of these services."
