Pedestrian hit by petrol tanker

A man is being treated for serious head injuries after being hit by a petrol tanker on the A40 in Cheltenham.

Police said he was trying to cross the dual carriageway by GCHQ in Benhall on Saturday afternoon when he was struck.

He was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital before being transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

The 55-year-old tanker driver, from Bristol, was uninjured. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened at about 1530 GMT.
